A tour of downtown Rochester

So here are a random sampling of the buildings/sights I get to look at every day when I'm downtown at work. If you haven't seen the buildings of the Mayo Clinic....they're pretty impressive for a city kind of in the middle of nowhere. If you're a factoid person- the clinic started back in 1883 when a tornado hit Rochester and the Franciscan nuns convinced Daddy Mayo (William W.) that we needed a hospital.....and here we are 125 years later with 2 hospitals and a huge outpatient clinic. It's kind of nice to go to work every day at such an amazing place.

The world famous Mayo Clinic.... or WFMC as we call it... :)

The two brothers who started it all.... Drs. Charlie and Will

Gonda building reflected in the Damon parking ramp....

Charter House reflected in the Graham parking ramp

Connection between Gonda & Mayo buildings....

The Plummer building which has a carillon on top...played by our resident carilloneur

Bronze doors on the Plummer building....they've only ever been shut a few times (less than 10 since the building was built- Kennedy's assassination, 9/11, other events like that)

Mayo building connection to Gonda building

They're adding 4 floors to the top of one of the parking ramps....we never have enough parking spaces for everyone....and I highly doubt we ever will.

The Charlton building with the connecting bridge to the Gonda building...

The Charlton & Eisenberg buildings.....I work in Eisenberg, AKA Methodist hospital

A sign in front of the famous Mayo marble...

The intersection where I work!

Fountain in the Peace Plaza

Hibiscus outside Victorias (AMAZING authentic Italian food)

The Kahler ("kayler" not "collar") Grand Hotel

Downtown old theater which is now a Barnes and Noble....but the inside looks like a castle

bird statue in the annenberg plaza outside the Plummer/Mayo buildings

A sidewalk ant's view

Flag atop the Plummer building

Thank you for joining me on this tour.... :)

I was wondering whether you would mention Victoria's. We were lucky enough to stumble onto it when we were up that way!

Wow. So when are you starting your photography business? ;) My SIL is a photographer and just did a bunch of photos similar to this for a Target. It was a big job and paid quite well. Maybe you should show some of these to the big wigs at good ol' Mayo.
