Happy Birthday to my muffin

Dear Chloe,
Today you turn one. I can't believe one year has already passed since you joined me and Daddy to add to our little family. We know all the cliches now that other people talk about. Can't imagine life before you, our world has been turned topsy-turvy, life couldn't be more amazing having you here, having a kid changes everything, etc etc. Bottom line is, it's all been more than worth it.
You started walking on your own 3 weeks ago...how amazing to watch you! Your wonder and amazement about the world around you is contagious. It's amusing and astounding to watch you explore and figure things out that seem like they should be way beyond your comprehension. The things you do to make us giggle and then repeat them over and over to elicit more giggles are adorable. Wherever we go you're a broken record- "hi...hi....hi....hi....hi!" to everyone we see. People think it's adorable and so do we even after 2.2 million times. Your smile is infectious...who can resist your adorable dimples?! Your grasp of language is amazing....you've picked up the few signs we've tried to teach you with astounding ease. More, milk, all done and you're beginning to nod your head yes and no. You always know exactly what you want and most of the time it's something more to eat!
When you're getting tired we ask if you're sleepy and you nod yes. After a minute (or less) of rocking you lay down in your crib and go to sleep without another peep. That's the only time you like to cuddle. Otherwise it's constant motion. You're always busy busy busy. Even in meeting. You're getting a little better at staying quiet though, thankfully. Sometimes if we're lucky you'll even fall asleep! You're definitely becoming a Daddy's girl. Whenever you get hurt or upset you seem to turn to Daddy first now. It's heart-melting to watch that bond growing even if a small bit heart-breaking at the same time.
You're starting to understand discipline and you definitely don't like it. We can see the beginnings of a temper (sorry for the genes on that sweetie) but Daddy seems to do better at thwarting that than Mommy. Right now it's still kind of cute (but I'm sure that won't last long!). You love being outdoors and we can't wait for it to finally stay warm so we can be outside with you!
Your pacifier is your best friend and they're always scattered around the house. You sometimes seem to have a homing mechanism in finding one. It's wicked cute to see you smile around your pacifier as your eyes light up as bright as the sun. Sometimes you have one in your mouth and one in each hand as if they're going out of style!
I can't wait to see what this next year will bring. Ups and downs I'm sure but it'll be fun in the end to watch you grow by leaps and bounds. You definitely have us both wrapped around your finger and we wouldn't rather it any other way!

Love you muffin!
Mommy
